Mercedes-Benz 300d RestoMod

With only 3077 produced from 1957 to 1962, the Mercedes-Benz 300d was the final iteration of the 300 “Adenauer” series cars. With a revised power train, updated suspension, and a longer wheelbase, the 300d was built on an oversized X-shaped frame, and featured a pillarless roof. Designated the W189, it was Mercedes-Benz largest, most elegant and expensive automobile of the time.

300d

The 300d featured here has undergone a complete frame-off, rotisserie restoration and modernization by OldTimer Restoration Center. All major mechanical components including engine, transmission, brakes and suspension have been updated using modern Mercedes-Benz mechanicals to meet modern drivability and convenience standards.

The original 180hp 3-liter straight six and 3-speed automatic have been replaced, in favor of engine and transmission from the 1995 C36 AMG. The additional 100+ horsepower and torque is sent to the rear axle with a 3.64 gear ratio from a 300SL for greater highway speeds. Controlling the handbuilt AMG Power plant is motorsports-grade CPU and data logging system. Originally equipped with drum brakes, stopping power is now provided by disk brakes front and rear from a 1995 Mercedes-Benz S600. To fit the larger brakes, a set of custom 17” wheels were created to mimic the originals.

Redesigned from the ground up with modern convenience in mind, a CAN network controls the chassis electronics. Using authentic switchgear and materials, this car is equipped with daytime automatic headlights, power windows, seats, climate control, and cruise control. Hidden behind the original burl walnut and leather dashboard, is a modern infotainment and navigation system.

With only subtle interior and exterior changes, this 300d embodies all the class and style of the original when it was produced 60 years ago. Combined with modern performance and electronics hidden under a fully restored skin, this 300d is hard to beat.
